Using Skylights to Improve Buildings and Attics
There are many buildings, not to mention rooms in houses that could do with a bit more light, light that could make all the difference to whether full use is made of them, not to mention the benefits to those who visit or work in them. Consider those dark halls that are often found in office buildings, and imagine how much better they would be with a bit more light. Now of course, you could add artificial light, something that will be needed in the darker days of winter in any case, but when available, there is nothing like natural light to improve the spirit.
Natural Light Improves Productivity and Wellbeing
Ask any employee and they will tell you that sunlight improves how they feel and that artificial light (especially fluorescent light) often makes them feel less than well. Now in some cases there is no ability to ?access? light via the walls and this is where the skylight comes in, place some in the roof and you can have all the natural light you need.
Placed in the roof of a hall, the change can be sudden and wonderful, changing the whole aspect of the room and the feeling that it gives to all those within. Productivity of those working in such rooms is bound to increase too, so it could be money well spent.
Skylights for Residential Use
Perhaps the very best use of skylights is in the residential roof, the installation of which will turn a dark and dingy attic to a light and potentially spacious room. Lofts converted into attic rooms can add a whole new dimension to a home, adding a new room to the house, one that can be used as a den for the man of the house, a room for the children or perhaps a spare room for visitors.
Skylights can also add a new way of experiencing natures wonders, imagine laying on your bed watching the starts wheel past, or a thunder storm in full force, the rain battering at the skylight above your head (but of course unable to get in). Watching the full moon through your roof light can too be a wonderful experience, one that you will never forget as you lie abed.
Roof Lights are the Answer
So if you are considering adding a new room to your home, then changing your attic to a spare room, one fitted out just as you need, could well be the answer. But a word of caution, make sure that you get any roof lights fitted probably, as if you skimp of this important area you will pay the price later on, the last thing you want is leaks in your new room.
Many Types of Skylights Available
There are many variants to the skylight, dome lights, ridge lights, square lights set in the roof, in fact a skylight for ever use and building. Roof or Skylights can also add to security and safety, as they can be used as escape routes in the case of fire or other emergency, plus can be made to shut in the case of fire to reduce the flow of oxygen.
